#BalanceForBetter: Empowered Women Empower Women

This year's theme for International Women's Day is 'A balanced world is a better world'.  We couldn't agree more.

In celebration of women's achievements, we're hosting a prize pack giveaway featuring items from some of the amazing women-owned and run businesses that we (and you!) support here at Twang and Pearl. Visit our Instagram or Facebook feed to enter! (Details in the posts).

Each of these women are incredibly talented, successful, giving and most of all inspiring.  We call ourselves very lucky to know and work alongside them all.

Kristi is the powerhouse behind Qube Clothing, a small independently owned & operated clothing company from Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada.  Qube focuses on high quality, handmade garments with astonishing attention to detail and comfort.

Each piece is designed, cut, sewn and sold by Kristi herself.  Her inspiration stems from the tranquility, effortlessness & versatility of the West Coast.  Rich, earthy tones are accentuated and finished with hand-salvaged Douglas Fir and Yew buttons from Lasqueti Island, BC. Each garment truly speaks for itself - and is as original and as gorgeous its maker.

Kristi is also a member of our #TwangGang - and our store wouldn't be the same (or as pretty) without her.

Laurie is the brains and beauty behind Wild Coast Perfumery, an artisan perfumery located in Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Pictured here with our Founder, Jana - who was an instant fan of her sweet storefront and the gorgeous perfume she makes there. Laurie blends her perfumes with intention using pure plant-based, precious essential oils and wild harvested tinctures made from needles, leaves, flowers, lichen, fungi and moss from BC forests.

Laurie believes in respecting nature, ourselves and that we are the sum of the choices we make. So, it is her promise to you that all Wild Coast Perfumes do not contain: synthetics, petrochemicals, artificial fragrance oils, dyes, parabens, phthalates or chemicals. 

We're rather partial to the Salt Spring Island scent (of course) - but you can choose whichever you like if you win the prize pack.

Kenda is the owner and designer behind Mimi + Marge.  She started Mimi + Marge 20 years ago after a degree in design and working in the Fashion industry as a designer.  She loves what she does (and we do too)!  

In Kenda's words, "I meet the most amazing people while being able to work in my creative field. How swell is that? One of the best parts of my job is that I come to Bali 2-3 times a year. For me, it is a magical place. I am aware of the massive steps forward women have made in the world, and even more aware of what still needs to be done."

Kenda tells us that there is no larger thrill than to see someone wearing one of her pieces - and we're so happy to help make that happen as much as possible.

Jill is the talent and aesthetic maven behind Bees Wax Works. 

In Jill's words, "To be around the wax is so calming. I love the process. I like the solitude. It’s an intimate thing, to work with this magic substance and make it a part of people’s lives, connect with them and get to meet them. I’ll be asked to create a birth candle, or a candle for someone’s memorial. Even for someone’s final hours, and my work is there, witnessing that. It’s an honour and very humbling.

I get to live and work in a beautiful environment on Vancouver Island, where there’s a lot of support and understanding of what it’s like to leave a 9-5 for a creative career. The Saturday Market is creative, dynamic, instantly collaborative – I love the camaraderie."

We've carried Jill's lovely Bees Wax Works candles in our store on Salt Spring Island since we opened our doors and we've loved watching the joy she pours into her candles, pour out to all you lovelies.
