Meet Mali.

Mali is our sweet ‘little’ Girl Friday (who is not so little anymore – but is still as sweet as the day we met her). Mali joined our Twang Gang as our after school helper when she was 15 with a keen interest in all things fashionable. We have had the privilege of watching her grow into a smart and caring woman (not too mention a stunning one – you’ll notice her gorgeous mug is a staple on the Twang & Pearl Instagram feed).

Mali likes to keep on trend and has a very keen eye for what we like to call ‘the good stuff’. Her sparks of excitement when new boxes arrive are a pure delight - both because we know we’ve picked well if Mali is ‘squeaking’ and also because her excitement is so contagious.

Here’s Mali’s in store loves for her summer to do list: lazy lake hangs, island hopping kayak trips, beachy bonfires, family time and Twang Gang photo ops (oh to be a teenager again).

Hart + Stone Jewellery has been a love of Mali’s since day one on the job. And since that day you’ll almost never find her without at least one piece adorning her ears, fingers, wrists or neck (and usually more than one). Made on Salt Spring Island by the lovely and talented Emily McPhee (who incidentally was a Twang Gang team member herself when she was just starting out), Hart + Stone is a staple in the jewellery cabinet at Twang & Pearl. Mali is definitely not alone in her love of this line. Mali’s current favourites are the stacker rings (from $23) and curled crescent moon earrings (from $42).

These gorgeous Corkcicle canteens (from $38) hit the sweet spot for Mali’s love of gorgeous style combined with a superior function that also packs a positive environmental punch.

Whereas most water bottles are only double insulated, Corkcicles offer three layers of stainless steel and a cork insulation that keeps beverages in these beauties fridge cold for up to 25 hours (or hot for up to 12 hours). Mali’s summer Corkcicle love just got a little bigger with the introduction of their reusable straw cap, ($12) which she says is perfect for on the go cold summer drinks. She also loves that she can easily switch it back to the screw cap in a pinch when she’d rather be warming up in this changeable West Coast climate with hot tea or coffee.

The fact that all Corkcicle products are 100% recyclable is another major reason why Mali loves this brand. Following Vancouver’s recent ban on plastic straws (go Vancouver!) Mali believes that plastic cups and straws are finally on their way to becoming a thing of the past. We think the creators of Corkcicle were on to something when they set out to create an environmentally beneficial product so gorgeously designed and superior functioning that they would captivate even the non eco-conscious into opting for a reusable water bottle.

These babies tickle our fancy in more than just one way (as they also come in a 25 oz size that fits an entire bottle of wine and a 60 oz size that fits a growler of beer to fill up at our local craft brewery Salt Spring Island Ales).

Mali owns at least 4 pairs of Quay Australia Sunnies, (from $68) so when the new styles roll in there is LOTS of squeaking. Enough said – you’ll just need to come on in and try some on to see what all the hype is about (or flag Mali down on the streets of Ganges sporting a pair this summer and she’ll likely be easily swayed to gush about why she crushes on them so much).

Locally owned and sewn with love by our very own Twang Gang member Kristi Lee, Qube pieces are in Mali’s words ‘the best ever’ for transitioning from an afternoon patio session at Barb’s Bakery, her favourite café on Salt Spring, to a night out on the town in Victoria.

All of Kristi’s Qube designs are super comfy and stunningly gorgeous, (and not just on Mali – we promise). Mali especially loves the ‘ Qrew boyfriend sweatshirt’ ($128) for its comfy cozy feel for cooler summer nights (and she’s not alone – it’s a bestseller in the store and Jana & Teile own one too). Pairs well with a long Qube skirt for a casual summer look with sneaks or flip flops.
