Grandmother's Buttons - Earrings - Vintage Coral Rose
44.00
These earrings feature two very rare, collectible, bright, and beautiful vintage Japanese glass flower stones.
Before WWII, most Japanese glassmakers were rice farmers whose glassmaking was a hobby.
However, during the American occupation of Japan after the war, glass cabochon commissions from American jewelry makers created new economic opportunities. So many of these rice farming glass artists set up lampwork workshops in their homes and spent the wee hours of the night producing glass beads and buttons for export.
American agents provided samples of the molded Czechoslovakian flower cabochons, and the Japanese artisans quickly learned to produce similar glass cabochons like those featured in these earrings.
They were handmade by Grandmother's Buttons jewelry, a small women-led family business that creates heirloom jewelry from antique buttons & vintage glass in their Louisiana design studio.
